Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course: A New Generation Takes to the Fairway

A New Initiative for Women in Golf
On 22 August 2026, Tamarina Golf Club hosted the first initiation session of “Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course,” an initiative designed to introduce more women to golf and create new opportunities for participation in the sport.
The session was organised by the Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) in collaboration with Redlac Real Estate, bringing together women from different backgrounds for a day focused on discovery, learning and connection.
20 Women Take Their First Steps into Golf
The first session welcomed 20 women, selected from around 40 registrations. For many participants, it was their first opportunity to experience golf in a welcoming and supportive environment.
From learning the fundamentals to getting comfortable with the club and ball, the participants were encouraged to approach the sport without pressure. The objective was not simply to introduce golf, but to make the experience accessible, enjoyable and motivating.

Learning the Basics with Expert Guidance
The initiation session included practical coaching led by Deenesh Parag and Atish, who guided participants through the essential elements of the game.
The women had the opportunity to practise their swings, understand basic techniques and eventually experience hitting the ball on the course. The relaxed format allowed participants to learn at their own pace while gaining confidence with every attempt.
As the session progressed, golf became more than a new sporting activity. It became an opportunity to step outside familiar routines, meet new people and discover a different environment.
Golf as a Platform for Personal Development
“Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course” is built around the idea that golf can contribute to development both on and off the course.
Beyond learning how to play, golf can encourage qualities such as focus, discipline, confidence and perseverance. It also provides an environment where people from different professional and personal backgrounds can connect.
For women discovering the sport for the first time, the initiative offers an opportunity to become part of a growing golfing community while exploring the wider values and opportunities associated with the game.
A Collaborative Effort to Grow Women’s Participation
The initiative reflects the MGF’s continued efforts to encourage greater participation in golf in Mauritius, while also supporting the development of opportunities specifically for women.
The programme forms part of a broader collaboration involving the R&A, the Ladies Golf Union (LGU) and The Talent Factory, alongside the MGF and Redlac Real Estate.
The involvement of The Talent Factory, an agency focused on public relations, communications and visibility in Mauritius, further supports the initiative’s objective of creating awareness around women’s participation and development through golf.
Redlac Real Estate Supporting Women in Golf
As a supporting partner of the initiative, Redlac Real Estate contributed to creating an environment where women could discover golf and engage with the sport in a meaningful way.
For Redlac, the initiative also reflects the company’s broader commitment to supporting activities that bring people together, encourage participation and create opportunities for meaningful connections.
CEO Shelendre Appanah highlighted the importance of encouraging women to take part in golf and supporting initiatives that can help develop their confidence and participation in the sport.
From the Fairway to the Business World
Golf has long been associated with networking and professional relationships, making initiatives such as this relevant beyond the sporting environment.
For women in business and leadership, gaining access to golfing communities can create additional opportunities for networking, relationship-building and professional interaction. The “Leading On and Off the Course” concept recognises this connection between sport, personal development and the professional world.
The initiative therefore aims to open the door not only to golf, but also to the wider community and opportunities that can come with being involved in the sport.
Participants Share Their Experience
For the women who attended, the session was also about trying something new.
Participants described the experience as enjoyable and welcoming, with the supportive atmosphere helping them feel comfortable while learning the basics. For some, the session was their first introduction to golf and encouraged them to consider continuing their journey with the sport.
The positive response from participants demonstrated the potential for further initiatives that make golf more accessible to women of different ages, backgrounds and levels of experience.
A Beginning, Not an End
The first session at Tamarina Golf Club marks the beginning of the “Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course” initiative.
With continued collaboration between the Mauritius Golf Federation, Redlac Real Estate and its partners, the programme aims to encourage more women to discover golf, develop their skills and become part of the golfing community in Mauritius.
From the first swing to future rounds on the course, every participant has taken an important first step. And as the initiative continues, that first step could become the beginning of a lasting journey in golf.
Building a More Inclusive Future for Golf
The session at Tamarina Golf Club highlighted what can happen when sport, community and opportunity come together.
With 20 women experiencing golf for the first time, the initiative has created a strong foundation for encouraging greater female participation in the sport. More importantly, it has shown that introducing women to golf is about more than teaching them how to play — it is about creating confidence, connections and opportunities both on and off the course.
Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course is only the beginning.
