Women in Golf: A Successful First Initiation Session at Tamarina Golf Club

Golf has the ability to bring people together, build connections and create opportunities well beyond the course. Yet increasing participation among women remains an important area of development.
Recognising this opportunity, Redlac Real Estate and the Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) have come together to support a new initiative designed to introduce more women to the sport and make their first experience of golf more accessible.
Turning Interest Into Opportunity
The first “Women in Golf – Leading On and Off the Course” session at Tamarina Golf Club was created around a simple idea: sometimes, people simply need the opportunity to try something for the first time.
For the 20 women who attended, the session provided that opportunity. Rather than expecting newcomers to already understand the game, the initiative allowed participants to approach golf from the very beginning, learning the basics and experiencing the course in a relaxed setting.
More Than Learning How to Swing
Golf initiation is not simply about learning how to hold a club or hit a ball.
For someone completely new to the sport, stepping onto a golf course can also mean entering an unfamiliar environment. The Tamarina session was therefore designed to make that experience approachable, allowing participants to learn, ask questions, practise and enjoy themselves without the pressure of performance.
That first sense of comfort can be an important part of encouraging someone to return to the course.
Building the Right Environment
The atmosphere surrounding an introduction to golf can make a significant difference. At Tamarina, coaches Deenesh and Atish guided participants through the fundamentals, helping them understand and experience different aspects of the game.
The objective was not competition. It was discovery.
Participants were able to practise putting, work on their swings and gradually become familiar with the game while enjoying the experience alongside other women who were also discovering golf.
Collaboration at the Heart of the Project
The initiative reflects the value of collaboration within the Mauritian sporting community.
The Mauritius Golf Federation and Redlac Real Estate each contribute to a wider effort to create opportunities for participation and development. A special thanks to WAGC Mauritius, Ladies Golf Union (LGU), Tamarina Golf Club and The Talent Factory
By bringing together different organisations and expertise, the initiative creates a stronger platform for encouraging women to explore golf.
Supporting Women Beyond the Fairway
The title “Leading On and Off the Course” reflects an important dimension of the initiative.
Golf can provide opportunities for people to build relationships, develop confidence, expand their networks and take on new challenges. Creating greater access for women can therefore have value beyond participation in the sport itself.
For Redlac Real Estate, supporting an initiative of this nature aligns with the importance of creating spaces where people can connect, develop and discover new possibilities.
A First Experience Can Change the Perspective
One of the most significant outcomes of an introductory session is simply allowing someone to see themselves as part of the golfing community.
A person who has never picked up a golf club may not know whether the sport is for them until they actually have the opportunity to try it.
The Tamarina session created that moment of discovery for 20 women — offering them the chance to experience golf first-hand rather than from the sidelines.
Continuing the Conversation Around Women in Golf
The first session is part of a broader conversation about how the golfing community can encourage more women to participate.
Creating awareness is one step. Providing accessible opportunities to learn is another. Building a supportive environment where newcomers feel welcome can help turn initial curiosity into continued involvement.
The Women in Golf initiative brings these elements together through practical experience and collaboration.
Redlac Real Estate’s Commitment to Meaningful Initiatives
Through its support of the programme, Redlac Real Estate is contributing to an initiative focused on participation, inclusion and opportunity.
The collaboration with the MGF demonstrates how businesses and sporting organisations can work together to support initiatives that create meaningful experiences for the community.
Featured in L’Express
The initiative was recently highlighted in L’Express, bringing attention to the collaboration between the MGF and Redlac Real Estate and the importance of encouraging more women to discover golf.
The feature also recognised the contribution of the coaches, organisers and partners who helped make the first session possible.
The First Step Has Been Taken
The first session at Tamarina was not about producing golfers overnight. It was about creating an entry point.
Twenty women stepped onto the course, picked up a club and experienced golf in a new way. For some, it may remain a memorable one-day experience. For others, it could become the beginning of a much longer relationship with the sport.
Either way, the message is clear: creating more opportunities starts by creating the opportunity to begin.
